Summary of Position:

The Cloud Architect is responsible for working with clients to assess, author, and evaluate options for cloud migrations.  This position will help Katalyst’s clients determine optimal performance for applications and workloads in the client’s environment as well as provide Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Return on Investment (ROI) modeling.  All elements of the technology stack should be considered and understood.  The Cloud Architect should possess great communication and presentation skills, be deeply analytical, and have a working knowledge of on-premise, managed, private cloud, and public cloud options.  This architect should be able to assess, recommend, and deliver solutions around application performance, connectivity between data centers, securing workloads, and operational efficiency.   

This position reports to the Director of Engineering.  



  • Passion around the cloud opportunity

  • Focus on executive level discussions with the ability to provide value to the most technical resources as well

  • Thought leadership around cloud adoption strategy

  • Analyze workloads and recommend on premise, managed, private, or public cloud

  • Create cloud assessment strategy and methodology and workshop

  • Perform cloud assessments and recommend forward looking road map

  • Author and perform migration from on premise to cloud

  • Oversee process for creating high quality and consistently accurate scopes of work

  • Ownership for pricing of professional services for end customers

  • Train internal resources on benefits and risks of cloud and drive further adoption

  • Provide both post sales and pre-sales support

  • Consistently achieve high levels of customer satisfaction

  • Vendor interaction and management as well as compliance to certification requirements

  • Evangelize new company initiatives relating to products, services and programs

  • Performs other duties as assigned and required.  Duties and responsibilities may change from time to time without notice and include but are not limited to the duties described above.


Job Functions:

  • Work in field with account management, pre-sales, and post sales team

  • Perform assessments

  • Author statements of work

  • Provide thought leadership

  • Develop discovery templates, SOW templates, and methodology

  • Work with human resources on the hiring and training of new team members

  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and any potential impact on existing services

  • Continually assess and redefine offerings

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High level knowledge of applications, infrastructure, collaboration, security, cloud, and data center technology

  • Understanding of Hybrid IT and consumption methods (on premise, managed, cloud)

  • Understand cloud services model (Azure and AWS skills desired)

  • A self-starter and fast learner

  • High degree of organization and attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical people

  • Skill to mediate between Sales, Solutions Engineering, Post-Sales Engineering and other departments

  • Ability to thrive in fast paced, sales driven, pay for performance environment

  • Ability to juggle many priorities that quickly change


Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of cloud experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of overall technology experience

  • AWS and Azure experiences are a plus

  • Consulting experience a plus
